The neck in the Pilates repertoire - Common issues and solutions - Cameron Angus

This workshop looks at the cervical spine in relation to you the Pilates movement teacher.
Reviewing common neck problems and altered movement strategies that clients may present with, you will explore the latest research on neck function, and learn how to integrate some key movement solutions into your Pilates repertoire. Cameron uses his specialist upper limb and neck knowledge to help you recreate effective movement that has been disrupted by neck pain which in turn leads to poor coordination. This session introduces, in a practical format, how to use the latest knowledge and research into your teaching. Use movement techniques, and integrate the senses – such as vision, to further enhance your client’s movement experience.

This afternoon workshop explores the pelvic floor, its relevant connections, and how you as a movement teacher can effectively teach the integrated functions of pelvic floor, hip, spine and breathing to create excellent movement patterns. This is not about specialist pelvic floor management, which requires a specialist level of expertise. This is a journey into effective pelvic function appreciation. This workshop gives you practical skills and cues to use with clients with an emphasis on understanding your possible role in ensuring a coordinated, effective pelvic region. As a teacher of pelvic health to other health professionals, Cameron has been involved with ensuring that effective programmes of treatment and continued health are instigated in a number of areas.

All our clients are different and it is important to recognise the needs of the less able client and the client with physical conditions, and to build in to a session alternative exercises to accommodate those needs. By applying our Pilates principles, we can make modifications and adjustments to suit each individual and to enable them to progress towards the classical routine or to perform to the best of their abilities. Alan shares his programming gems and helps you bring focus to your client’s Pilates journey.

MAIN CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS
In some equipment workshops you may be working with a partner.

Holistic coaching - Wanting to succeed - Melanie Christou

Many professionals sabotage their own success, knowingly or not. In this talk we will explore the paradox of the human condition, which is wanting and not wanting something at the same time. We will discover why this is happening, why it is useful and how to move forward towards achieving your dreams. This talk is for anyone who finds themselves repeating the same unhelpful behaviour every time they try to create a change. An interactive talk focusing on a mindset topic aimed at Pilates teachers and movement professionals. The nature of the talk is educational and will give participants simple strategies they can try out on their own without the need for coaching.

Return the shoulder to its dynamic best - Cameron Angus

This workshop is spread over two sessions – one theory and one practical. In the first session we will revisit the possibilities of the shoulder girdle area, review some of the classic shoulder ‘issues’, look at some of the latest injury management pathways and look at how you, as a movement teacher, can be a part of the restoration of function process. You will also be given some tools to ‘read what you see’. In the practical session we move to the mat where, using Pilates exercises and new movement fusions, we explore and learn to teach movements and awareness that will enhance your client’s integrated upper limb experience while helping you, as a teacher, feel confident. The aim is to give you the knowledge and enhanced repertoire to be confident with your clients’ shoulders, injured or not.
It is recommended to attend both sessions, but you can attend one on its own.
